This was an important computer networking & communications conference where tutorials and technical sessions were presented by leading researchers from around the globe in industry, government, and academia.
Among the primary topics included in the technical program this year were wireless networking, sensor networks, network security, cloud computing, high speed networks, P2P network design & measurement, Internet routing architecture, optical networks, multimedia networking, and traffic engineering.
I met with many conference attendees at the Morgan Kaufmann booth, including Yi Qian, University of Nebraska, College of Computer and Electronics Engineering; George Varghese, UC San Diego; Eitan Altman, INRIA, France; Amir Epstein, IBM/Haifa Research Lab, Israel; and Ty Znati, University of Pittsburgh. Over 800 people attended this year’s conference.
I also met with Larry Peterson, Princeton, co-author with Bruce Davie (Cisco) of the popular MK textbook and professional reference, Computer Networks: A Systems Approach. Work is currently underway on the revised edition (5th) scheduled for release in March 2011.
At the keynote event, Larry Peterson was awarded the IEEE Infocom “Computers and Communications Award for Groundbreaking Contributions to the Design, Implementation and Deployment of Network Software Systems” for his work on large scale worldwide deployment studies incorporating real network prototypes. Congratulations, Larry! (See http://www.cs.princeton.edu/~llp/)
Next year’s conference will take place in Shanghai, China in April. Learn more at http://www.ieee-infocom.org/.
